Good t-shirts are becoming history here in UTP. Rather than waiting for a good t-shirt, we would buy a simple design tagged with an expensive price but possesses low quality. Where’s our right to choose? We buy something which is not up to its standard and any other university can have it even with lower price. We should have the same benefits too. I have been looking into this matter since last year and none of the t-shirt designs are of satisfactory quality and there’s no place to voice our opinion on this matter.
The estimated normal cost price for one plain, low quality t-shirt is around RM7-RM10 plus with a simple design, add RM5 to that then the t-shirts will be marketed for RM27-RM29 and some up to RM30. Each t-shirt sold give profit RM15 and say they are sold around 100 units. You can guess it right - 4 digits revenue for each design. It’s a bad business etiquette to profit too much for a low quality product but it is not completely wrong to have done so. With RM30, we can have Goggles brand with the quality or even other better brands. Smart consumers spend their money wisely. Spending wisely doesn’t mean investing in cheap products, but spending your fortunes on a product with small ratio of price and quality.

I think I’ll go through each design, since blank wants me to anyway…
1. The “I love to think University Teknologi Petronas Malaysia” design. I don’t really favour the whole “I love to think UTP Malaysia” phrase, since…well, what on earth “love to think UTP” is? It doesn’t make sense(to me anyway). Why not “love UTP” instead? And the “Malaysia” word is too small, youy can hardly make it out from afar. Though the design itself is rather classic, like the evergreen “I love NY” shirts. I think “I love UTP” or its derivative is better.
2. The light-grey UTP word with dark grey outline. This one is rather ok, though I’d like to see it with more colour combinations.
3. The UTP word inside the dark-gray rounded square. I don’t really favour this one, cuz it’ll be difficult to make out the grey word UTP against the white outline. Maybe replacing the word’s grey colour with a darker colour will do.
4. A basically darker version of no 2. I like this a lot.
5. Tilted version of no 2. Looks okay, tho I don’t see much difference.

the designer once told me ” i wan something different from the (I love NY) tshirt. the small letter of malaysia is intentionally made so that ppl will look it closely”. “if i make “i love utp” the arrangement of the fonts would not be so nice.”, he said.
However i will make sure him to design another one for the “i love utp” and it will be posted here later.
the “i love to think universiti teknologi petronas” thing is too long and the meaning is doubtful. i agree. Do you have any suggestion?
i dont think everyone aware no.6 is one of the design too LOL

The price is way off. For $7-10 I can include the design price. Let me know if you’re interested.

Err..can i comment on comment? =p
mr. sodrohu
u shud aware of “I love UTP” design have spread all over utp once during convofair07.black n white version. he(this designer) just wanna “twist” the existed design for a new one.
agree? =)
as im a “budak hingusan” in tshirt designing,
there’ll be no point for me to comment technically.
so straight forward,
as an aye of your future customer mr designer,
u shirt with “i <3″ design is quite impressing.
but i think “i <3 universiti teknologi petronas malaysia” only will be pretty enough for me to buy one.
as the font keep on decrease by size,i just think it’s unique. people’ll keep an eye of me to reveal the small words though. haha.
and from four of UTP design, i agree with sodrohu. we preferred the 3rd design. darker. baru la nampak cket. =D

well after reading this article for times, i only realise that the ‘I <3 to thnk….’ is actualy a tee-design =P..
in my opinion, its kind of unique as the font is decreasing but the phrase however is too cliche.. when looking at it people will think of NY or HK or even KL but not UTP instead. i think mr designer should come with newly, fresh tagline which can reflect UTP as a whole.
try to create your own(UTP identity instead of mimicking others…
btw,good job guys…hails UTP~

yeah, true enough… this is rather a cliche.. more importantly, it’s a mimic… why not we create an identity of our own? having said that, i must agree that the design is quite good… simple yet nice.. a job well done.. but still, i don’t really favour a design that mimic the others ( worst of all, i perceived that a quite similar design has already available in UTP ). Just be creative… i know it’s easier said than done, though… but as a designer it’s your job, am i right? =D
All in all, that’s only my 5 cent personal opinion ( since 1 cent can’t be used anymore in near future ). Again, congratz Mr Designer, you’ve done a really fine job.. but just be more innovative and try to create a brand of our own.. if you’re able to do it, you’ll be the first one..and you should be proud of yourself…
Thanks and regards…

IMHO creative is subjective. creative to a person is different from each other. Most designers(me included) here are still learning.
I appreciate if we discuss with some reference or example. give us some links to a preferable tshirt if u have.

i agree on one term here. exactly what blurry specifically pointed out. the design “i <3 to think…” is kind of mimicking the previous tshirt designs in utp plus it doesnt resemblance the aspect of UTP, just the fact of their names is being spelled out evenly.
and btw, the design of UTP block of letters is cool…reminds me of the design for some rugby team in my bro’s school… (not as similar, but still more or less the same…)
*still searching for other alternative outlook of UTP tshirt branding, but to no outcome. yet.

[…] I always wish i can have a good tshirt here in UTP. I wish someday i will find some. But waiting makes us desperate. Rather than to wait for a good tshirt, we would buy a simple design with expensive fee (since no one can say anything) yet horribly low quality. Where’s our right to choose? Read More […]
